A Brief  History

Methodism began in North Northumberland in Alnwick with the work of a local preacher
who established a Methodist society. Alnwick was visited by John and Charles Wesley whilst on a preaching tour in 1748.The Wesley's set out from Plessey, a thriving Methodist mining community, and travelled up to Morpeth.
After preaching there and in Widdrington and Alnmouth, they reached Alnwick, to be welcomed by the small Methodist society. The society grew in strength and continued after John Wesley's death in 1791.
In 1960 the Methodist Church moved from Bondgate to Chapel Lane.

There were at the time, two Methodist societies which had orginally been seperated by their ideas;
those who followed Wesley's preaching and those who felt they should be independent.
1996 Alnwick Methodist Church joined the Seahouses Circuit and then became part of the
Lindisfarne Circuit in 2006.

Alnwick is a Town Church with car parks close by and a limited number of on-street parking places
closer to the church.

It is located on Chapel Lane just off Market Street.
It houses a pulpit which is said to be the original pulpit John Wesley preached from in 1748.
