A Brief History.
The Church, established in 1880, was brought into being through the zeal
of Mathew Stephenson, a local
fisherman, and Charles Wood, also a fisherman, from Hauxley nr
Amble.
Stephenson, fishing out of the Tyne heard many of the hymns being sung by the fishermen. He was so impressed that,
on his return home, he taught them to his children and before long his home
became a regular meeting place. .
At the same time Charles Wood was already making a name for himself as a preacher .
A small Methodist society was formed and in 1880 Ralph Archibold donated as much land as was needed for a meeting house.
The church was completed at a cost of 474
The first Marriage took place in 1887 after the church registered for this
purpose 3 months before.
A small, attractive single storey building houses Craster Methodist Church.
Craster is a picturesque fishing village approximately 10.6 miles south of Seahouses
on the Northumberland Coast.
The church celebrated its centenary in 1980 and is still going strong.
It also boasts having one of the longest serving church organists, a Mrs Grey (formerly Miss Scott)
who was in attendance for almost 60 years.
